Homepolish’s Guide to Sag Harbor

Heading to the Hamptons? Check out our picks for the best of the East from design stores to hip haunts to coastal classics.

The enclave of Sag Harbor has its own style. It perfectly balances the adorably salty and scruffy with high-end haunts and cutting edge design. We can’t help but marvel at the best of both beachy worlds. We love spending time on the sand as much as anyone, but some times you need to come in from the sun and shop or sip a glass of wine. Here are our must-sees in Sag.

And if you are in town, stop by the goop MRKT Sag Harbor. The lifestyle gurus turned a traditional cottage into a general store, featuring a backyard designed by our own Jill Romine. Stock up on summer essentials like serving pieces, sandals, and soaks (and try saying that 3 times fast).

1. Sag Harbor Whaling Museum
A celebration of the town’s rich history as a whaling village and port. In addition to hosting the largest collection of whaling equipment in New York, it also offers up ever-changing exhibits and interesting events (like a Moby Dick-reading marathon).

2. Provisions Natural Foods Market & Organic Cafe
Health food mecca.

3. Dopo La Spiaggia
Delicious upscale Italian.

4. Sylvester & Co Modern General
The Modern General is truly what the name states. Artist Lynda Sylvester constantly reinvents the store to provide something for everyone—from her signature blend of coffees to unique apparel, furniture, and home goods.

5. The Corner Bar
Community staple since 1978.

6. Big Olaf
Must-eat waffle cones. There’s no website and it’s cash-only so plan accordingly.
The address is 8 Wharf St, Sag Harbor, NY 11963

7. Ruby Beets Old & New
An incredible vintage and modern interior store housed in an old silent movie theater.

8. Peconic Water Sports
Your guide to all aquatic activities from paddle-boarding to jetskis.

9. Tutto Il Giorno
Neapolitan eats in a chic shoppable space.

10. Bay Street Theater
Epicenter for the arts from Saturday night comedy to musicals and movies (including the Hamptons Film Festival).

11. Canio’s Books
Classic community book store

12. Sag Harbor Variety 5 & 10
Iconic have-it-all hometown shop.

13. Ayr Beach House
The “all-year-round” brand brings its beachy best.
