Creating a Family Home in Boston

Marissa R. and her family

The sensation of "home" should be felt as soon as you walk in the front door. Marissa brought in Homepolish's Jessica Klein to make their Wellesley residence into a reflection of their lifestyle.

Functionality is essential for any family house, but it doesn’t make it a home. Moving into a Wellesley residence, Marissa R. and her family felt like the space didn’t properly reflect their vibrant personalities. According to Homepolish designer Jessica Klein, “Marissa felt like the home had features that reminded her of a tract home feel. She wanted to bring life to the space by layering decor and art.”
The duo tackled the front living area and dining room, arguably the most essential when it comes to entertaining and showing off your style to guests. From a plain white box, Jessica brought in pops of color through accent furniture and rugs. The family’s collection of antique maps and small artworks, which had regrettably been stored and tucked away in nooks throughout the home, were brought out for display. The collection unmistakably marks the home as their own, simultaneously sophisticated and kid-friendly.

In 2013 we moved into our home, and with the busy schedule of a big family, I struggled to get the design aspect of our home. We couldn’t afford the expense of a traditional interior decorator, and I felt stuck. The Homepolish model is perfect for us (both the process and the price). Jessica understood my aesthetic immediately – as well as our budget constraints – and helped me make so much progress. Plus, she brought so much positive energy to the process!
