When Homepolish's Chelsea Mayo first arrived at a Corona del Mar home, she was hired to redesign the kitchen, but the project soon spread to the adjoining dining and living areas.

Sometimes you catch the bug. And no, we’re not talking about the flu or the common cold. We’re talking about the design bug. You start small… maybe rearranging a vignette on your bookshelf, but then you find yourself rethinking your room layout, and then all of a sudden, you’re repainting. It can avalanche right before your eyes. It’s the best kind of problem (as long as you watch your pocketbook).
This is exactly what happened to Lance and Melanie Dumas. Living in the Corona del Mar neighborhood of Orange County, they first called in Homepolish designer Chelsea Mayo to oversee a redesign of their kitchen. With plain pine cabinetry and black granite countertops and backsplash, the space hardly reflected their sunny California locale. Originally, they planned to simply repaint the pine wood, but when they realized the type of cabinetry wouldn’t allow for this, they went for the gusto and completely demo’ed the old woodwork. White Shaker-style cabinets (complete with bar storage!) came in to replace it. From there, the team kept the clean, all-white look going, replacing the countertops and backsplash with Calacatta quartz and porcelain tile.
That’s when they started to go design crazy. Suddenly, the brown wood ceiling rafters (a stunning architectural statement) looked tired and dark. They were repainted to a glistening white that allows sunlight to radiate throughout the space. Then, the dining and living areas got a facelift. The stark dining table was softened with sheer curtains, inspired by their favorite Delano Hotel in Miami. The living room received some reupholstery and new lighting. Let’s just say, the couple got more than they bargained for. In the best way possible.

Chelsea got to know us, listened to us, and proposed lots of solutions and ideas. We never would have had the time (or eye of detail) for this to be a success. Chelsea was fabulous and patient!- Melanie Dumas, Homepolish client
