Owning a space gives one a much higher incentive to make it completely unique, to make it your own. Ravi, a straight-shooting Manhattan bachelor, had been used to the New York City nomadic lifestyle, hopping from apartment to apartment every one to two years. Finally, he had enough of that and decided to put down roots in the up-and-coming neighborhood of… wait for it… Harlem. Settling just above the storied Apollo Theater, he found a 2-bedroom apartment with a terrace to boot. The foundation was all there, and he called in Homepolish designer Marissa Bero to give it some character.
To make matters easier, Ravi had most of the pieces necessary to create the perfect masculine and modern apartment. The only purchase necessary in terms of large pieces was a rug from ABC Carpet. This anchor informed the rest of the space from color choices and finishing touches. Black leather, wood, brass and chrome come together in a bold yet comfortable combination. To soften the space, Marissa took Ravi down to the flower district. She remembers it as her favorite moment, as Ravi’s business acumen crossed with design: “I mentioned to Ravi that he could negotiate on the prices. All I can say, is that he drives a hard bargain! He was awesome.”

I tend to have a million ideas, and when left to my own devices, a mix-matched, hodgepodge of a space results, appearing to house a confused teenager. Marissa really focused the theme.- Ravi P., Homepolish client
